Thankful for New Opportunities as a Photographer
Isn't it great when we receive an unexpected blessing? Recently, I was contacted by a publishing company that produces magazines for neighborhoods around the country. They were looking for a new photographer for a neighborhood publication featuring a community in my vicinity near Joe Pool Lake called Families of Mira Lagos. It was a call that I almost didn't answer because I didn't recognize the phone number and these days I get so many unsolicited and spam calls, that I often let them go to voice mail so I can screen them. This time, for some reason, I decided to answer the call and as I listened to this lady named Kathy, I was thinking, is this for real? What's the catch? The more we talked, Kathy and I really seemed to hit it off and as she shared information about their company and the publication, the more excited I became as I realized this would be a great opportunity for me.
Now, once a month, I have the opportunity to photograph a family from the Mira Lagos/Grand Peninsula community who will be featured on the cover as well as having a story in the publication about their family. Because my first family needed to reschedule for a later date, we were able to schedule a family from my church who lives in this community, The Ramirez family. I'm excited to see the next issue where they will be featured, read their story, and see their cover photo taken by me! Here are a few images from our session taken at Elmer Oliver Nature Park in Mansfield, Texas, where by the way, the Ramirez family spends time together fishing and enjoying nature, even when they aren't posing for a magazine cover!
Update! Adding in photos of the cover and photos in the article! How exciting!
