Fine Art Projects

During our recent stay in the mountains of New Mexico, a little fine art project materialized. I have always loved the opportunity to be creative in my photography, and while I love meeting families and having the opportunity to photograph them so they will have a treasured memory, I really appreciate it when I can take the time to create my own work.  

We always make a trip to the grocery store on our first day after arriving to purchase food for the week.  And, we were able to visit the local farmer's market here on the weekend.  While there were fewer vendors present this year, thanks to COVID, there were still several that we were able to make purchases from to enjoy the fruits of their labor.  While at the farmer's market, we purchased some just picked strawberries in little cardboard, pint containers.  The strawberries were smaller than those I typically find packaged at the grocery store, but they were so cute and I was anxious to taste them.  As I washed them in a little red colander I found in a drawer, I remembered a recent article on photographing food, and I could see great potential in these little strawberries.  

My inspiration took off.  My friend's house has a beautiful wood island that made a perfect base for my still life food images, and she had a variety of bowls and baskets to utilize.   I used natural light coming in from the door and windows.  The project evolved as I began to see other fruit and veggies and eggs that we had just purchased and I began experimenting with arranging them.
