Photos Provide a Strong Connection
Our son has always loved looking back through our family photo albums, as a young child to even now as an adult. I think it brings back fond memories of fun family times, but it also provides a connection for him to our family. And don't we all want and need to feel connected?
You may have read elsewhere on my website that I was adopted as an infant. Because of that, when Greg was younger, he used to ask us if he was adopted. It took more than a few conversations, including showing him pictures of the three of us in the delivery room together to convince him that he was not adopted. For me, two of my aunts brought me home from the hospital on either day 2 or 3 to my loving parents who were adopting me. I have a picture of me in my crib with a large stuffed stork looking down at me. Mom and Dad always told me "the stork brought me" until I was old enough for them to tell me about being adopted. Since I was their only child, they always made sure that we had lots of contact with aunts and uncles and cousins - and to this day, even though we don't see each other as often, we are still close. And I have pictures in our family photo albums of all those cousins, which not only serves as a reminder for me of my connections, but also for my daughter and son.
A professional photographer, Michele Celentano, of whom I have great respect always says, "You never know the value of a photo until that's all you have." We all know that we are not promised tomorrow, so that makes now a better time than ever to get that family photo that you deserve to have in your home, and it will increase in value every day, every time you and your family members look at it!
