Senior Photography Packages
It's senior year! The year of milestones, memories, and stepping stones into the future. You will want to commemorate this pivotal time with stunning senior portraits. With so many photographers and packages out there, choosing the right one can feel overwhelming. Read on to learn a bit more about senior photography packages and be one step further in finding the perfect fit for your style and budget.
Variety is the Spice of Life:
First things first, understand that senior photography isn't one-size-fits-all. Senior photo packages come in all shapes and sizes, offering different session lengths, locations, outfit changes, and possibly digital image quantities. Some photographers specialize in classic studio portraits, while others capture candid moments in nature or urban settings. The key is to find a style that resonates with you, whether it's timeless elegance, edgy street vibes, or anything in between.
Decoding the Packages:
Now, let's decipher the typical features of senior photography packages:
- Session Length: This dictates how much time you spend with the photographer, impacting the number of photos and locations captured. Shorter sessions are great for budget-conscious students, while longer sessions allow for more outfit changes and elaborate setups.
- Locations: Will your portraits be in a studio, outdoors, or both? Consider your desired aesthetic and the locations that best represent your personality. Some photographers offer flexibility in choosing locations, while others have set packages with specific backdrops.
- Outfits: How many different looks do you want to showcase? Packages typically offer a range of outfit changes, allowing you to express your diverse styles and interests.
- Print Credit, Print Options & Digital Images:
- Print Credit: Some packages include a specific dollar amount for print credit allowing you the ability to select from a variety of print options that they offer.
- Print Options: These print options often include a senior book or album, gift prints (5x7, 8x10s and wallet sized prints), graduation announcements, as well as specialty print items.
- Digital Image files: This is the number of edited photos that are included in your package or credit that you receive after the session. Higher quantities offer more variety, but remember, quality over quantity always reigns supreme!
- Prints vs Digital files: It can be tempting to think you only want the digital files, that is what we think because that's what we get with our everyday photos from our mobile phones. But here are a few things to keep in mind:
- You are going to want to look back at your senior memories long after those digital files are lost, deleted, or the media they are stored on is obsolete. Prints never become obsolete and the prints you get from a professional photographer/professional photo lab will be color corrected and should be on archival paper printed with archival ink that won't fade and will last a very long time.
- You can’t give digital files as a gift. Your grandparents, aunts/uncles, etc. will want prints that they can enjoy and look back on and not have to think about where that digital file went.
- If you have the option, get both.
Beyond the Package:
Remember, the package is just a starting point. Discuss your specific needs and preferences with the photographer. Don't hesitate to ask about add-ons like hair and makeup styling, and even split sessions with friends.
Pro Tip: Research local photographers! Check their websites, social media pages, and online reviews to get a feel for their style and client testimonials. I highly recommend that you schedule consultations to discuss your vision, see finished products, and just get a better feel for the photographer.
Remember: Senior portraits are an investment in memories. Choose a package and photographer that aligns with your budget, personality, and vision. With the right approach, you'll capture timeless photos that celebrate this unique chapter in your life!
