My Love of Fine Art
My website is all about portrait photography - families, children, seniors, and business portraits. There is creativity involved in this, but there are pressures as well because there are so many things running through my mind during a portrait session to ensure that the end result meets my client's expectations. While I love doing portrait photography, I have found that creating fine art photography allows me to really use the creative side of my brain. I also believe it enhances my skills as a portrait photographer because it builds within me the ability to really see and understand light and composition. Usually when we are traveling by car, I will have my camera readily accessible and if something catches my eye, I shout out Stop, and Randy has to turn around and go back so I can get out and take several pictures of whatever scene caught my eye. I have found that if I don't give in to these spontaneous moments, I regret it later as I keep seeing that scene in my mind and wish that we had stopped. And I have also learned, that sometimes a wrong turn or getting lost can result in opening up a vista that you would otherwise have not had.
I do have an item on my bucket list that I haven't shared with many people, up til now. Someday, I would love to have my own fine art photography gallery, or have my work displayed and sold in a fine art gallery. Whenever we travel, I love visiting art galleries and art museums to view the work of famous artists and hope some of their style and genius can rub off on me. It is also interesting to talk to the gallery owner to learn more about the current artists whose work is being displayed - to understand their perspective and more about them as a person. I find I can better develop my skills as a photographer by seeing how these masters (historic and contemporary) portrayed their subjects, whether their subject is a person, an object, or a landscape. And sometimes changing one's perspective can have huge and unexpected benefits in your final outcome.
