Barker Family
This was the second occasion to have the privilege of photographing this family. Their son, Skip, recently turned 4 and mom wanted a more recent portrait of him and Dad wanted a family portrait in their living room. We chose Prather Park in Highland Park (Dallas) because even though it was winter and limited greenery exists in Dallas at this time of year, some of the shrubs are evergreen and they have some interesting stone work in various places to add interest. Courtney brought along Skip's cousin so we could capture a couple of images of the cousins for grand mom. The kiddos were excited to go to the zoo, their next adventure, but we managed to capture some memorable moments and Mom and Dad now have a beautiful 20x30 framed canvas in their family room, as well as a framed fine art print of the cousins to match the one that is also hanging now in their grandmothers home in Virginia!
As a follow up to this story, Courtney, the mom, texted me one day, sometime later after the portrait was hanging in their family room. She said her son had a friend at their home and he pointed to their portrait and proudly told his friend that was his family and Ms. Lea Rhea had taken the picture.
We never know the lasting impact of a family portrait on our child's security and self esteem. When there are so many challenges in the world these days, seeing themselves in a family portrait each time they walk through a room, reminds them where they belong and that they are loved.
